My Story
I started this journey, the journey of better health almost 2 decades ago. It’s been mostly a discovery process, and a slow one, not intentionally, quite frankly because I just didn’t know. Which is why I was driven to start this business. To inform, educate, guide, share, inspire and most importantly the WHY and HOW.
In my 30’s I was having a challenge with weight, energy and stamina. I was single, very much wanting a partner and to start a family, but quite happy with my life otherwise. I worked in the Entertainment sector of corporate America. Upon a big birthday, somehow, and I don’t remember how or why, I stumbled upon the book It’s All Good by Gwyneth Paltrow. I read it cover to cover, several times actually, but got really stuck on the Intro, something she said about how she was feeling and life at the time really resonated with me. She went on to talk about how she discovered Dr. Alejandro Jungar, sought him out and worked with him. Dr. Jungar is the father of Clean, the original concept and meaning, which essentially is a very ancient and ayurvedic based (5,000 year old medicine) way of treating the body. I fell down the rabbit hole, bought all his books and started my journey.
Dr. Jungar’s first book Clean, is extraordinary. This is my very first recommendation to everyone here. He does a brilliant job of not only explaining but showcasing with real patient stories how and why what we inhale, ingest or absorb is a direct result of how our body feels, and performs. As with most functional or integrative doctors, he had his own health crisis that led him down the path of discovering “clean”. After reading this book, I followed the protocol, religiously, and it worked. I almost immediately felt great, had more energy and that dopamine hit, made me want to dive deeper and do more of it. After his 21 day protocol, I sought out my first functional/integrative practitioner. This was my first experience with an extensive blood test. What I loved about this practitioner, he sat you down and walked through every single blood marker, what it means, why it’s good or bad and what to do about it. And I worked with him for about a year, getting IV fluids regularly, continuing the Dr. Junger clean protocol (and it was a pure coincidence at the time (or so I thought) that the elimination diet that he put me on matched almost identically to Dr. Junger’s clean protocol… more on that later).
After about a year of eating clean, boot camp 3 days a week, cardio twice a week and no alchoal! (Oh and during this time, and because I had a great job and was very single, I could afford to emulate my dream and live on the beach, so my mental health was greatly awarded by daily walks with my dog on the sand and nightly sunset runs). I met my husband, and the thrill of dating, and him very much NOT living a clean lifestyle made it hard to follow. Then a year later I started hormones for IVF, followed by a year of hormones, followed by an IVF conception with more hormones, followed by a pregnancy, the birth, nursing and a baby that never slept for 7 straight months!
And that led me to my most recent journey. I have an infant, she’s finally sleeping, so I’m finally sleeping, but I’m back at my corporate job, trying to juggle this new working mom thing, and the symptoms set in again. I couldn’t lose weight, brain fog, didn’t feel like myself, digestion and gut issues. I had also started listening to podcasts on my 2:30 hour daily commute. Since I loved It’s All Good so much, I started listening to the Goop podcast. This began my fascination and infatuation with podcasts. Each time I heard an interesting one, I’d deep dive the guest, and so on and so forth. Since I was frustrated with my current state of health, this was the area I focused on most. I heard a functional doctor, and scheduled an appointment with him, 6 functional doctors later, I still couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t lose the baby weight and still had gut challenges, and we discovered we had mold in our home. The clean diet and fitness weren’t working like it did a decade earlier. So I had to really deep dive my health and so through my own journey, thousands of hours of research, my own trial and error, following hundreds of doctors, scientists, biologists, toxicologists and influencers, my own Integrative Nutrition certification later, here I am to help guide you. Because this is a hard concept and space, our bodies or bio individual, and not one “thing” works for everyone, but then what do you do? At the core of all of this though, is the ability for our bodies to maintain homeostasis, and that is severely disrupted by the toxic environment and soup we live in daily. I have tried everything, (not diets but eating philosophies) over the past decade, everything from hormones to intermittent fasting to keto to mediterranean to strength training to walking to everything. And I’m only now finally starting to shed, and I think after years of research I discovered that my weight was stuck due to obesogens in our environment (caused by PFAs chemicals that do not go away), and my inability to reset my nervous system. So, at the core, and the very simplest thing we can do is to reduce toxins. And then, I hope my guidance helps get you down a better path, I will not only provide my knowledge, tips, tricks and recommendations, I will also help curate resources so that you have a head start and a better outcome on your health journey.
